reading list | summer 2017

In the summertime, I don't like heavy foods and I don't like heavy reading. Don't get me wrong - plowing through a great thriller while you're sipping on cocktails on a beach is totally wonderful. In fact, it would be positively thrilling. However, I don't want to make an attempt at Any Rand on my vacations.

Check out what's on my summer reading list and be sure to tell me what you're diving into during the summer months in the comments below.

miss mabel's school for girls by katie cross

What do you do when you know that you're cursed? Heroine Bianca knows what she must do. She has to get close to the witch who placed the curse upon her...by becoming the witch's pupil. Add in a magical forest, and you've got some darkly haunting summer reading.

the perfect girl by gilly macmillan

Gilly MacMillan is known for her suspenseful novels. This one surrounds a gifted child musical prodigy, a dark past, and the mysterious death. If you're looking for a perfect rainy summer afternoon read, this one is the one to pick up.

the bookman's tale by charlie lovett

I love books about books. And booksellers. And librarians. In this novel, protagonist Peter is mourning his late wife...and becoming increasingly obsessed over a centuries old painted likeness of her.

ink and bone by rachel caine

Imagine never being able to own another book again. The though of this terrifies me to my core. In this spellbinding novel, the world's knowledge is controlled in the Great Library, but owning books is considered a crime. Who controls the hub of knowledge? Jesse is the one we follow to find out for sure...

serendipity by louise shaffer

Family secrets are a dime a dozen, especially when you're in the business of show business. Follow Carrie, daughter of a famous mother, trying to pick up the pieces of her life and sort out the mystery that started it all.

the fall of butterflies by andrea portas

Remember how it felt to be in high school? How the popular crowd seemed to have it all? Prepare  to delve into the depths again with Willa and Remy, two unlikely but perfectly matched heroines.

the tale of the body thief by anne rice (audiobook)

I'm most definitely looking forward to Anne Rice's fourth novel in The Vampire Chronicles. What would you do if you could switch bodies with another? Would you attempt it? In this novel, a lonely and heartbroken Lestat attempts to find this out...and suffers the consequences.

bossypants by tina fey (audiobook)

Tina Fey is by far one of the most amazingly feminist, badass bossypants around. So why wouldn't I want to listen to hear narrate her own book? Shiiiiiit, there's no way I wouldn't! If it's half as good as Yes Please, I'm completely making an investment.

harry potter and the chamber of secrets by j.k. rowling (audiobook)

Do I really need to explain myself here? I loved EVERYTHING about HP. You can't miss out on the perfect reading on one of the best books ever. DOOOO ITTTTTT!
