Ahhhhh, as a goal-setter and list maker, the new year always sparks a little excitement in me. I love, love, LOVE challenging myself to new goals. This year (for obvious reasons), I've been a little lax and have focused more on taking care of myself as opposed to reaching new heights and genuinely challenging myself. However, I'm hoping to get back into my routine of pushing and learning new things.

So if you played along this year, the goal was to read a book a week (or 52 books in a calendar year) and read one classic novel a month. While I am proud to say I accomplished that, I'm disappointed that I can only say barely. In fact, I just finished the classic book challenge on Christmas Day.
A quick word on classic novels - they're slow. They're not very funny. They're pretty misogynist and racist and bigoted. While there were a few that I enjoyed, I didn't devour them. Needless to say, I will never be a Rory Gilmore book reader.

It wasn't pretty - but it's done. My top three favorites were (in order) Great Expectations, Jane Eyre, and Anne of Green Gables.

I opted to change things up a bit - instead of sticking to one genre, I wanted to play the board some. In addition to trying to read a book each week, I encourage you to pick something off of this list each month for an added challenge. It will make things fun - and I'm ready to start the new year off with a book...I mean, bang!
