wine wednesday | august 2016
It's hard to believe that I've yet to write a post on Wine, Books, & Wanderlust about wine. WTF have I been doing all this time?!
(oh yeah, reading books, traveling, making/eating delicious food, rambling thoughts...but whatever)
Whoops. I feel as if I have failed you.
There's just something about wine. It enhances the flavor of food, it brings out certain smells, the sound of the cork releasing...ahhhhhhhh.
[I might add that it's been a particularly long week and it's only Wednesday]
I will fully admit that I'm mostly a fan of reds, though I do like some sparkling wines and the drier whites. If it's sweet, count me out (sorry to the Man Friend's relatives in the Midwest, but no can do, ladies).
Tonight's yumminess was brought to you by Josh Cellars's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon. While it's a relatively young (and inexpensive) wine, it's one of the better ones we've found to enjoy at dinner...without a 900% restaurant markup. It's easy to drink and requires minimal airing.
I could get all uppity and say that it's got a jammy flavor with berries and smooth vanilla finish. But I'm not a sommelier, so I think that description is bullshit.
Real talk: it paired well with the spiciness of the chimichurri steak and crawfish êtoufée we enjoyed for dinner. It even went well with the mediocre store-bought cheesecake for dessert (a poor substitute from the rich, previously served NY style cheesecake....ugh, what happened?!).
In the future, I plan on highlighting a favorite varietal or winery every month for wine Wednesday. That being said, the goal is to write the blog before I drink the wine...otherwise you get a mess of a post like this one.
