The Man Friend and I aren't really traditionalists when it comes to Christmas. If we exchange gifts, they're usually small. We don't cover our whole house in decorations. Our meals are usually random and more contemporary than the traditional turkey or ham (and after three Thanksgivings, I'm totally cool with that). We just prefer to be a little different. That includes our Christmas decorations.
Instead of green, red, and silver, our tree is purple, teal, and gold. I even set up my little miniature one with this year, decorated in all of my Mardi Gras masks. I wanted to share some of my favorite ornaments and a few stories behind them.
wedding ornament
Our wedding photographer is amazing. Not only did she sent us a beautifully handcrafted wooden box with a flash drive of our wedding images...and an adorable duel-sided ornament for our tree. This is one of my favorite photos of us ever.
mardi gras mask from new orleans
On our first trip to New Orleans, I picked up several masks as souvenirs. As the years have gone on, I've accumulated almost two dozen...and I use them as tree decorations. They're fun, different, and remind me of our soul city.
shredded wedding invitation
Our friend Jenarae, who made our wedding invitations, sent this to us as a gift. She shredded one of our wedding invitations and added a peacock feather. It's one of my favorite ornaments, because it's a little less obvious than our other wedding ornament.
winos for life
My sweet mother-in-law is the queen of random Christmas ornaments. It's always fun to see what she comes up with each year. These are two of my favorite wine-themed decorations. So much, in fact, that I think I'll keep them up year-round.

The Man Friend is an amazing musician. This is the first ornament I ever bought for him, so it still have a special place in my heart.
