Boy, the last few weeks have been a complete whirlwind! My beautiful sister and her newly minted husband were married almost a week ago. It feels like we were just there yesterday.
The Man Friend and I got three nights with my wonderful family, then we hit the road for Pittsburgh on Monday. While we didn't get a chance to really go "play" in Boerne, my mom and I managed to sneak in a little non-wedding activities while we were there.

The Man Friend flew into the San Antonio airport on Friday around lunch, so Mom and I opted to leave on Thursday so we were there in time to pick him up. As a little woosah moment before Sarah's big day, I semi-surprised my mom with an AirBnb stay at what is quite possibly one of the prettiest little cottages I've ever seen.
Amelia's Cottage is situated on approximately 20 acres just outside of Boerne. Located on a horse farm, the main house and cottage are made of stucco in a very southwest, Santa Fe-style fashion. However, the interior of the cottage was perfect, with deep set windows, built-in bookshelves, lots of light, and little accents everywhere. It was the perfect place for us to relax. Cynthia, the owner, was so welcoming and kind - she loves animals, traveling, and getting back to a more natural lifestyle. It's always so nice to meet a kindred spirit when you're traveling. This cottage was the perfect retreat. My only disappointment is that we didn't get to stay longer.
Bernie the barn cat also served as part of the welcoming committee and happily parked himself outside the cottage doors. The "fee" for passing in and out was a few ear scratches. One of the first things Cynthia told us was that he is not an indoor cat...no matter how much he tried to convince us otherwise.

Skip out on all of the chains and go local! Mom opted for the Dodging Duck Brewhaus, a local restaurant that has a little bit of everything. We were starving! This place was hosting an event for a local humane society, so we weren't able to sit outside. However, the music from the live band was loud enough to hear indoors.
We split the pretzel appetizer, which consisted of one large soft pretzel with two delicious mustard dippers, two wedges of sharp cheddar, and local seared sausage bites. It was the perfect unhealthy snack, which was followed up by two salads so we didn't feel so guilty! Mom chose the Heart of Boerne salad with chicken, which had a little of everything on it (including hearts of palm and artichoke). I went simple with a Caprese salad, which was delicious but filling...particularly after I totally moo'ed it up with the appetizer.
We skipped dessert, otherwise we would have been miserably full. However, the cherry pie with an oatmeal cookie crust sounded amazing. It even came freshly made from a local bakery.
