wimberley | january 2017

Though we've been back for almost a week, I haven't had a chance to write about our Wimberley vacation last weekend. It was a bit of a whirlwind trip but it was SO much fun.

where to stay in wimberley

Once again, AirBnB came through. Our host, Tom, graciously welcomed us to Casa Grande for our girls' weekend. The house, which is nestled up on a hill not far from downtown, is fun, spacious, and quirky. There are three bedrooms (plus an additional "kids closet" style room with futons), two bathrooms, and a nice kitchen. The backyard is lush and has a great hot tub under the trees. There are a lot of little touches that make this place feel like home. I would definitely stay here again.

where to eat in wimberley

This local cafe has been a staple since we first started going to Wimberley. It's amazing and quaint, with a rotating menu that focuses on fresh ingredients. Two people in our group ordered the weekly special, which was a salmon patty with seasoned rice. I ordered the salad trio, which had a butternut squash soufflé, the house salad, and mushroom-brie bisque. It was delicious and I can't wait to go back.

I've wanted to go to this restaurant from the first time I visited Wimberley. Our party of seven managed to score a brunch reservation and I am SO glad we did. Another local restaurant that focuses on fresh ingredients, The Leaning Pear is amazing. The two soups of the day were a corn and crawfish bisque and a spicy sweet potato...several people tried them and they were outstanding. My friend Stephanie and I decided to get the most food possible and share entrees. She ordered the daily special, which was a pork rib hash with poached eggs. I opted for the Uncle Art, a house-made pizza with spinach, artichokes, prosciutto, and garlic cream. For dessert, the table split a sticky toffee cake and an ancho-dark chocolate terrine. DON'T miss out!

what to do in wimberley

Enjoy Texas-distilled rums in a beautifully rustic setting. My recommendation? Skip the sampling and go straight for the cocktails on the porch under the trees. It's a great place to unwind a bit. The best drinks? The Rum Sunrise, the Mojito, or the homemade RumChata. They're all delicious!

shopping in downtown wimberley

Looking for a ton of cute stores, from antique shops to clothing boutiques to speciality foods? Downtown Wimberley will be right up your alley. It's a quick little walk around, and, while a little expensive, the stores are fun. Try Papa Hoo's Hill Country Popcorn, with every possible flavor under the sun (try the Sriracha!). My favorite store is Kiss The Cook...because, you know. Gracious Ladies Living stocks clothing from the Barefoot Dreams line. If you've never felt how soft these items are, you're missing out.
